Eastfield school cleaner announces retirement after 33 years of service
She and her husband have been called an amazing team
A school cleaner in Eastfield has been called amazing after announcing her retirement after 33 years of service.
Pauline Bean has been maintaining Overdale Community Primary School.
Headteacher, Vicki Logan, said: "Mrs Pauline Bean has worked for 33 years maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene at Overdale School. As a school we will miss her work, she has always completed her cleaning duties to the highest of standards and she is always there if there are any additional requests from the school team.
"In the earlier times of her working at Overdale Pauline used to complete a double shift every day, coming in at 6.30am to clean until 8am and then returning at the end of the school day through to 6pm. Mrs Bean worked through the pandemic when the hygiene expectations for the school were very demanding, she managed them with her usual efficiency and good humour.
"More recently, for the last two years, Pauline reduced her hours to just the afternoon shift and Mr Steve Bean joined the team, to cover Mrs Beans reduction in hours and he was instantly following the high standards set by Mrs Bean. Mr Bean also supported our caretaker when the snow needs clearing or the Christmas tree needs putting up.
"When we moved into our new building the couple were invaluable throughout the moving process and worked tirelessly to ensure that he school was furnished, clean and ready for the children to return to after the summer holidays.
"This couple have supported the school in many additional ways, giving freely of their own time to set up for the Official opening of the school and also for parent performances. Nothing is ever too much trouble and this will make them difficult to replace.
"We wished them a long and happy retirement in a school assembly in the final week of the term and the children made them cards filled with good wishes and gave them gifts of appreciation for a job very well done!"
