The Leader of Scarborough Borough Council says he did not think it was overly busy over the Easter weekend.
It is as there were expectations about an influx of visitors to the coast over the bank holidays.
Steve Siddons said:
"I think we approached the Easter weekend with some trepidation. We had a reasonably good week weather-wise the week before and people had started to appear, and we expected Easter to be quite busy but because the weather wasn't so good, it was probably no more than a normal Spring weekend.
"There were quite a number of people around but I don't think it was overly busy; the car parks weren't full and I think people genuinely behaved responsibly which is really what we ask people to do. We wanted people to come along to the coast but to act responsibly.
"I think there was a consistency of messaging right across the borough. The message was we understand you may want to come to the coast, you've been locked down for a long time but we want you to act responsibly, we want you take care, keep your distance from others and respect the local community because they live here all the time.
"The only thing you should leave when you come to somewhere like the Yorkshire Coast is your footprints in the sand. You should take your litter home, you should dispose of it responsibly and you should protect the environment and that applies 365 days of the year wherever you are, not just on the Yorkshire Coast."
