A East Yorkshire woman who was left unconscious and in a ‘vegetative state’ after being spiked at the weekend is now calling for better mental health support and security in night clubs.

20 year old Megan Bucknall was drinking with friends in Beverley when she felt a needle prick in her arm – she soon became unwell and needed urgent medical attention.

It comes as The Home Affairs Committee is calling for improvements, including stricter rules on bars and clubs.

Megan, said:

“The girls said that I looked possessed – that I was staring at myself in the mirror and sweating to the point where it looked like I just got out of the shower and then I said to them “oww my arm, my arm.

“I would like to see more security in place for things like this. I’ve been very happy that people have believed and wanted to help me but there are people out there where nobody believes them and that angers me.

“I feel like a mental health team should also be included in the case file to help with what’s happened.”

In a statement from Humberside Police, a spokesperson said;

"We are investigating a reported spiking at a venue on North Bar Within, Beverley, in the early hours of Sunday morning (24 April).

"One woman was taken to hospital after becoming unwell. Our investigations to ascertain the causes of this are ongoing.
