East Riding residents still urged to be cautious despite fall in Covid cases
Health bosses say despite us having to live with Coronavirus, we've got to be mindful of vulnerable people
Health bosses in the East Riding are warning us not to become complacent despite Coronavirus case numbers dropping.
They say more people are not testing now and that the virus is still spreading.
Zoe Stevens, public health nurse consultant at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "I do think we're in a place now where we do have to live with it now like other respiratory infections but it's just about being mindful, keeping those measures in place like making sure we're really thorough with our handwashing, where we can meet outdoors we still do so, be respectful to people who still want to wear a mask particularly when they're shopping.
"The numbers of new infections have dropped considerably and we're expecting them to drop further. However, we do know that less people are now testing. So although we did expect a drop in rates, we also know that less people will be testing so there may be cases that might not be recorded.
"There's a lot of people who are clinically vulnerable and we need to make sure those people in society are safe. The biggest thing we can do is get the vaccination so we would encourage people if they haven't gotten round to getting a vaccine, please do so.
"We would still say to people because we don't know there could be new variants evolving all the time as we've seen previously, if you are visiting elderly or vulnerable people, if you do feel unwell or you've got a temperature, you should just stay away."
