A Scarborough man has been given a one year community order in court after being charged with driving offences.

Last month police stopped a Volkswagen with one rear tyre missing on the A64 just south of the town and also found eight occupants in the car, none of whom were wearing a seatbelt.

Bandari Aslan, 20, who is from Pavilion Square in Scarborough, indicated a guilty plea to dangerous driving, but admitted to having no insurance and his original charge of driving without an appropriate licence was withdrawn.

He has been ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work and has to pay a total of ÂŁ180 in fines and costs and has been disqualified from driving and getting a licence for 18 months.
