Dragon boat racing returns to Yorkshire Coast
It's after a three-year break
Dragon boat racing is back on the Yorkshire Coast after a three-year break.
The event, which raises money for local charities, takes place tomorrow from 10am till 4pm at Wykeham Lakes.
You can watch 25 boats slug it out in heats through the day until there is a winner.
It is being organised by The Rotary Club of Scarborough Cavaliers and its Club President, Richard Creasey, said: “We are really looking forward to this year’s event, as we have had fantastic support from local businesses and organisations with 25 sponsored boats – the best ever.
"Apart from being a super way to raise much needed funds for local charities, it is also a terrific fun day out for all the family and friends."
Since it was first run in 2012 the event has raised in excess of £50,000 for charities across the Scarborough area and regionally with over 3,000 paddlers having taken part in the races.
The dragon boat racing will begin at 10am with the Scarborough Borough Mayor, Councillor Eric Broadbent starting the first race.
Teams of 17 paddlers in 12 metre-long dragon boats compete in a series of races culminating in a grand final at around 4pm.
A programme will be available on the day detailing the teams, sponsors and supported charities.
