North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue: "Don't wait for a fire before prevention"
It's started a new campaign to raise awareness of its 'Safe and Well' visits
North Yorkshire residents are being told to not wait for a fire to happen in their homes before preventing it.
It comes from the county's Fire and Rescue Service as part of a new campaign that it has started.
'Don't Wait For A Fire' aims to raise awareness of its 'Safe and Well' visits where people can get their homes checked by crew members.
Adam Farrow, Watch Manager for Prevention at North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, said:
"We would rather come and see people and give them education about home fire safety. We'd rather stop a fire from happening rather than actually waiting for someone to unfortunately have an incident, and then us give that education or in some cases maybe that intervention that requires some new equipment like smoke alarms.
"We get a lot of incidents that are completely preventable and that maybe with a little bit more information or even just some help and assistance from us, we could stop people from having fire incidents which can obviously devastate people's lives, it can be a huge financial cost and in some cases it can result in some injuries or even worse."
