Talking pet toys are being introduced to a dementia café in Bridlington to help people with it improve their wellbeing.

The café at Bridlington Town Football Club was recently launched as part of a move to make the town dementia friendly.

It is Christine Nicholson’s first time there and she has enjoyed seeing new people and interacting with the pets, Christina said:

“I’d definitely like to come back and have a little chit chat, there’s loads of little games here. The cat is helping me because I’ve just been told I’ve got dementia. I love the cat, we’ve had hundreds of them in our garden.”

The idea came from Phil Woolhead, the lifeline technology officer for East Riding of Yorkshire council, he said:

“I’ve brought along a cat and a dog today which look real, they interact with people. When you touch them, the cat starts purring it's amazing to see the lady here today is interacting with the cat she seems to love it and is getting a lot of satisfaction and happiness out of it."

The Hidden Friends Café will be based at Bridlington Town Football Club in Queensgate. It will be open every third Tuesday of the month from 10am to 12 noon.
