Hunmanby Primary are raising awareness about the environment by launching a school project.

Pupils are creating a nature garden and have written letters to various businesses and organisations for help and donations.

They have even managed to gain support from Sir David Attenborough.

Deputy headteacher, John Rix, said:

"We have fantastic school grounds at our school but they are not particularly biodiverse; there's a lot of grass, a few trees and we're trying to create an area of the school field that is basically full of naturally occurring UK plants that's going to encourage wildlife to come.

"It's going to be a site where other children can come to do education work, it's going to help the environment in a small way and it's going to give children that hands-on experience as to why it's so important. It's all about sustainability and it's a lot about mental health as well, getting the children back with their friends outside.

"Amy and somebody else in the class wrote to David Attenborough basically to say 'this is what we're doing, we know you're interested in stuff like that and we just like you to be aware of what we're doing really', and we were delighted and really quite surprised when not only did we get a letter back from him, it was sort of a handwritten, personalised letter which was quite lovely."

John has been speaking to Greatest Hits Radio's Jon Burke and showed him the letter from David Attenborough:
