People in Bridlington are being reassured that it is safe to have the Coronavirus vaccine.

It is as there have been some concerns about the effects resulting in residents refusing the jab.

Dr Zoe Norris, Clinical Director of Bridlington's Primary Care Network which consists of all six GP practices, said:

"The vaccine roll-out has gone really well in Bridlington, that's not that it hasn't had its challenges. We're still told very late when we're getting vaccines, we can't request what vaccines we need and in what quantities, it just turns up. It's been really hard work to get the targets hit.

"We're continuing to vaccinate and working our way through the priority groups then there'll be a small group beginning to get their second dose which will start over the next few weeks. We still haven't been able to move to a model where we can request the second doses, so you may find that you're getting a phone call fairly late on to get that booked in.

"Social care staff are absolutely a priority to have the vaccine. I think it's something that locally we've done really well on, but if you're a social care staff and you're concerned that you haven't yet heard about your vaccination then do have a chat with your employer because as well as them being organised by the PCN, a lot of them are being organised by the local authority."

She has this advice for those who have refused the vaccine:

"Have a good look at the NHS website. There's lots of confusion and some information that's been shared on the internet that the vaccine can affect people's fertility, which is absolutely not the case. If you are concerned or if you're not sure, then please get in touch with your GP surgery to arrange a chat about that."
