Further 580 people with coronavirus across Hull and the East Riding

A further 580 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus across Hull and East Yorkshire yesterday (Sunday, January 30).
The Government’s latest rolling figures, updated today, show the number of infections recorded across the region was 2,644 for Hull and 3,013 in the East Riding in the seven days up to Tuesday, January 25, the latest with weekly data available.
A total of 62,399 new coronavirus cases were recorded nationally yesterday, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 16,468,522, with 85 new deaths recorded, making a total of 155,698.
The figures come as Health Secretary Sajid Javid has reportedly met with officials today to discuss scrapping mandatory vaccines for health workers by April amid speculation of a u-turn.
They also come as hundreds of care homes remain closed due to coronavirus outbreaks despite a government pledge that they would open for unlimited visiting from today.

The number of deaths within 28 days of a positive test result in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new deaths, and deaths removed from the total following revisions to past data, in brackets.
Hull: 768 (up two from Friday, January 28, up three weekly to Friday, January 14 to 835 with coronavirus on death certificate)
East Riding of Yorkshire: 917 (no change from Friday, January 28, up seven weekly to Friday, January 14 to 1,030 with coronavirus on death certificate)

Government data up to Saturday, January 29 shows that in the UK, 137,979,992 jabs have been given so far, 52,331,601 first doses, 48,385,074 second doses and 37,263,317 boosters.
