Coronavirus cases rise again Scarborough
It's after 43 new infections have been recorded in the last 24 hours.
Coronavirus cases in Scarborough have jumped up once more, after 43 new infections were recorded in the last 24 hours.
It brings the borough’s overall total, since the start of the pandemic, to 1,423.
The rising number of infections also means that the second peak in Scarborough has been worse than the first.
Between March and September 579 cases were recorded in the borough. Since then 844 infections have been recorded, in just over two months.
The borough’s seven-day infection rate per 100,000 people has also jumped up again. It now stands at 169, compared to 122 seven days ago and 92 two weeks ago.
The borough now has higher infection rates than Ryedale and Richmondshire, but remains below the North Yorkshire average of 205 and the England average of 227.
Today, a mobile testing facility will be at Scarborough’s Seamer Road park and ride site.
The testers will then be back in Whitby tomorrow.
The testing has been organised by the Department of Health and Social Care, which has warned people to not just turn up but make an appointment first.
There are two ways to do this, depending on which testing group you are part of.
Anyone who is showing coronavirus symptoms should register for a test on the NHS website at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/
People who do not have access to the internet, or who have difficulty with the digital portals, can ring the 119 service to book.
Tests can be booked at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.
