Coronavirus cases in Scarborough rise again
17 new infections were recorded in the borough yesterday.
Scarborough’s coronavirus infection rate has risen for the third day in a row, after 17 more cases were recorded in the borough yesterday.
The new infections took the borough’s total, since the start of the pandemic, to 993.
Scarborough’s seven-day infection rate has jumped up once more to 100.2 per 100,000 people. At the start of the week, it stood at 69.
The borough, which was placed on Public Health England’s coronavirus Area of Concern list a month ago, is now above Ryedale and Richmondshire in the North Yorkshire infection rate table but it remains below the average for England which stands at 144.
The borough has had 109 new cases in the last seven days, compared to 223 in Harrogate and 133 in Selby.
Yesterday, neighbouring York was moved into the “High” Tier 2 restrictions, banning households from mixing in certain settings. North Yorkshire remains in Tier 1, the lowest level.
On Sunday, a mobile testing facility will be in Scarborough at the Seamer Road park and ride site.
The testing has been organised by the Department of Health and Social Care, which has warned people to not just turn up, but make an appointment first.
