Violence and abuse against shop workers more than tripled over the pandemic, according to a new report.
The British Retail Consortium say many were attacked as tried to enforce social distancing and face mask restrictions.
Carolyn Frank is from the federation of small businesses in York and North Yorkshire and says she's not surprised by their findings. She has told Greatest Hits Radio "Some of the business owners who call me are very distressed and they don't know what to do. I've heard from businesses who have suffered people shouting at staff, throwing things, damaging their premises, breaking things, even spitting at staff which is absolutely disguising".
The FSB is also encouraging shop owners to report any attacks to the police as they are worried many cases aren't being recorded.
