People on the Yorkshire Coast are being invited to attend services in commemoration of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

There will be spaces for reflection, prayer and to light candles at a number of churches today.

In Bridlington, there is a service at 6pm at Christ Church on Quay Road.

Mark Carey is the Vicar there and said: "All the churches around Bridlington are holding a service or they are making sure within our services there's the opportunity for thanksgiving, reflection and remembrance and so there's some special things and sort of normal things that are special.

"We have a space where you can light a candle, write something in a book of condolence and we also have this thing where it's some black ribbon with a safety pin on it, which is great for people to make something to wear to remember and give thanks to the Queen.

"The Priory are fantastic for being a space where you can go into and have a quiet, reflective prayer. Each church is different and yet they're providing opportunities for people to express their grief, thanksgiving and those mixture of emotions that we're all experiencing."

The Mayor of Bridlington will be holding a one minute silence at 8pm at the War Memorial, in-line with the national silence being observed.

Mike Heslop-Mullens will also be laying a wreath on behalf of Bridlington Town Council.

A number of the churches in the town will also be live screening the Queen's funeral tomorrow, including Christ Church.

Mark added: "One of the things that we're noticing in our conversations with people is that they've had a sense of doing this alone. We've been stuck watching our screens and seeing all of this. There's this desire to come together as well and hopefully that's what this space we're providing on Monday morning is for."

In Whitby, there will be a civic service held at St Mary's Church at 2.30pm.

The service, which will be led by the Reverend Michael Gobbett, will be attended by the Town Mayor and members of Whitby Town Council.

The service is open to all residents and visitors, subject to the capacity of the church.
