Further 681 people with coronavirus in Hull and East Yorkshire

A further 681 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus across Hull and East Yorkshire today (Friday, December 24).

The Government’s latest rolling figures, updated today, show the number of infections recorded across the region was 1,475 for Hull and 1,879 in the East Riding in the seven days up to Sunday, December 19, the latest with weekly data available.

At least 179 cases linked to the Omicron variant have been confirmed in the East Riding, with 145 found in Hull, according to the latest UKHSA data.

The figures come as around 1.7m people across the country are thought to have had coronavirus in the last week alone, the highest number since Autumn last year.

It also comes as ministers are currently weighing stricter coronavirus measures and are due to make an announcement on Monday.

Hull: 50,449 (+298)

East Riding of Yorkshire: 56,114 (+383)

The local areas currently worst affected by Covid are:

Kingswood (1,085.4 cases per 100,000 people)

Molescroft (1,009.7 cases per 100,000 people)

Cherry Burton, Leconfield and Middleton (940 cases per 100,000 people)

The local areas with the lowest Covid rates are:

Bridlington Central (184.1 cases per 100,000 people)

Bridlington North and Bempton (243.9 cases per 100,000 people)

Burton Agnes, Rudston and Langtoft (295 cases per 100,000 people)

The number of deaths within 28 days of a positive test result in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new deaths, and deaths removed from the total following revisions to past data, in brackets.

Hull: 740 (no change, up five weekly to Friday, December 10, 813 with coronavirus on death certificate)

East Riding of Yorkshire: 882 (no change, up seven weekly to Friday, December 10, 1,006 with coronavirus on death certificate)

Government data up to Thursday, December 23 shows that in the UK, 131,194,282 jabs have been given so far, 51,649,696 first doses, 47,254,099 second doses and 32,290,487 boosters.

The local data shows:

Hull: First dose 186,974 (76.8 per cent), second dose 169,759 (69.8 per cent), booster 109,410 (45 per cent)

East Riding: First dose 281,067 (89.2 per cent), second dose 263,787 (83.7 per cent), booster 198,688 (63.1 per cent)
