Caravan removed in Scarborough after anti-social behaviour reports
There was a police presence in a part of Scarborough today
A caravan has been removed in Scarborough after a number of reports to do with anti-social behaviour.
Between 9.20am and 11.30am today (Thursday 1st September), North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire County Council Highways Authority staff and Scarborough Borough Council attended Trafalgar Square to facilitate the removal.
The order was given by the Magistrates Court to remove the caravan and other items belonging to the owner. Police attended to assist in maintaining order on site and to offer reassurance to residents and members of public in the community.
This result comes after numerous reports of anti-social behaviour surrounding the caravan, along with reports that the toilet waste from the Caravan was being disposed of down alleyways and drains nearby.
The resident of the Caravan has been engaged with a number of times over the last month, with members of all authorities engaging with the resident to encourage him to accept housing support. All efforts by all agencies have been undertaken to ensure the resident received accommodation after the removal of his caravan.
PC Ben Holtby, Beat Manager for the North Bay area of Scarborough was present at the time of the removal said: "Today's action stems from a large amount of multi-agency work between Scarborough Borough Council, Police, Fire, NYCC and others. A priority for us has always been the welfare of the resident of the caravan, as the last thing we wanted was for the resident to be left without a place to live.
"Through this multi-agency approach, we were able to ensure that the resident has temporary accommodation available with a view to a longer term housing solution. After a long time coming, the removal was successful without a hitch!"
If you experience any anti-social behaviour in your area, you can report it by calling 101 or using the online reporting platform on the North Yorkshire Police website.
