Cancer services at Scarborough Hospital's Macmillan Unit have returned this week.

It affects patients in Haematology, Oncology and Chemotherapy.

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Scarborough Hospital, says the services had to move due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Its Head of Cancer Services, Laura Milburn, said:

"They had been relocated on to our mobile unit while we were delivering the chemotherapy.

We had converted most of our outpatients appointments to telephone, so people weren't coming to the unit.

The mobile unit will be able to go back out on the road; so for those patients that were being seen in Bridlington, Malton and Selby, they'll be able to access our chemotherapy services on the mobile unit again."

The Trust has issued this advice when arriving for appointments:

"When you arrive at Scarborough Hospital please phone the department on 01723 342447 before your appointment time to inform them of your arrival. In order to meet social distancing guidelines (which remains at 2 metres within a healthcare setting) our waiting areas are now very limited.

"You will be asked to go to the North Entrance where a member of staff will meet you and escort you to the chemotherapy unit. Please attend the appointment on your own, do not bring anyone else with you. If you require a relative to bring you to hospital, they may take you to the North Entrance but then must wait for you in the car, or outside the hospital building on foot (maintaining a social distance of two metres at all times).

"If you need a carer to bring you, please phone 01723 342447 prior to your appointment.

"A one way system will operate in the department to support social distancing - clear signage will be in place to guide you.

"If you have any concerns with regard your appointment, please telephone 01723 342447."
