People are being urged to help prevent Scarborough Hospital from being overwhelmed.

It is as the borough's coronavirus infection rate continues to increase.

The message comes from York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust which runs Scarborough Hospital.

Consultant Ed Smith said:

"The hospital remains very busy this winter with patients of all varieties but particularly Covid and we're very keen for people to continue to follow the Government's advice; maintaining safe distances and reducing their risk of passing on or acquiring the Covid infection.

"We don't want the hospital to be overwhelmed with patients who are affected because every Covid patient that comes into hospital takes up space, and prevents us from doing our other really, really important health care work. So please follow the Government guidelines of 'hands, face and space' and keep safe."
