A group in Bridlington for young people with special educational needs or disabilities is looking for more members.

'Hear Me Out' is for those aged 14 to 25 who wants to make new friends, have their voices heard, have fun with regular activities and more.

The group is being paid for by The National Lottery Community Fund and the charity KIDS in the East Riding is running it.

Darren Clarkson, Young People's Participation and Engagement Co-ordinator there, said: "We really looked at some of the gap areas of participation services and how young people can have a voice and get involved in more activities across Bridlington and the surrounding area within East Riding of Yorkshire. We found talking to young people that there was a really big need for this.

"We managed to get funding sourced from the National Lottery Community Fund to help launch this project. Through the pandemic, we've really had to adapt our services as a lot of young people have been shielding. We've talked to so many young people and families that there's been so much social isolation that now's the chance for people to get together and be a part of something.

"We've done a lot of work with the local authority and other services. The young people from this group have fed their thoughts. Sophie was one of the young people who first started in this group and did a fantastic piece of work helping to get a key worker for young people with special educational needs and disabilities to help navigate the healthcare system.

"We've had lots of opportunities to talk to lots of people from services, both locally and on a national level as well, to transform services. The young people of the group have been instrumental in designing their own ways of working together, communicating as a group, how to design things and how to help local colleges improve their teaching to young people with SEND."
