Young people in Bridlington and the East Riding are being encouraged to take on an apprenticeship during the pandemic.

The County Council has been reaching out as part of National Apprenticeship Week.

Jo Shawls, Lead for Organisational Development at the authority, said:

"We've actually activated quite a robust social media campaign using Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, really to reach out to people that are interested in doing apprenticeship and also to celebrate the existing staff that we have that are also doing apprenticeship qualifications.

"It's a really good opportunity for people to learn different skills, on the job training and experiencing the world of work, let them set that first foot into their career.

"Young people in particular have been furloughed and the opportunities are limited. We need to make sure that we need to have a sustainable workforce in the future to be able to meet our communities needs. Apprentices play an absolute pivotal role in building our workforce of the future."
