Young people in Bridlington urged to not be hesistant when getting jab
East Riding of Yorkshire CCG wants young people to get the Covid vaccine
Young people in Bridlington and the East Riding are being told to not be hesitant when it comes to getting the Covid vaccine.
Earlier this week new figures from the Office for National Statistics suggested the reluctance of 16 and 17-year-olds - who can now get a jab - has decreased from 14 percent to 11 percent.
It has also dropped for young adults aged 18 to 21 from nine to five percent.
East Riding of Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group says in Bridlington 66 percent of people under 30 have had their first dose.
Its Chairperson, Dr. Anne Jeffreys, said: "We would worry if it was less than 50 percent. I think some young people are a bit hesitant because there has been a lot of misinformation on social media and a lot of scare stories. If you want some more information then please go to the regular NHS websites or ask a healthcare professional.
"Young people tend to get a very mild illness so if they get it they may have a cough or a bit of a temperature for a couple of days, but often it's no more serious than that so I don't think they realise how it important it is maybe that they do have the vaccination so even if you're young and may only get a mild illness, you need to get the vaccine.
"It's important because we need to stop the infection from spreading around the community because of course a young person can give it to an older person who might be very, very poorly with the disease, and also the more the virus circulates around the more likely we are to get a new variant."
