A new wellbeing hub has been opened in Bridlington for people with a learning disability.

It is based at The Medical Centre on Station Avenue and it is a chance to get extra support, help and advice.

It will offer a welcoming space that is dedicated and easy to use for medically vulnerable patients to understand how to look after their health and stay healthy.

Dr Priya Reddy, General Practitioner and PCN Clinical Director, said: “People with learning disabilities have a much greater tendency to develop both physical and mental health problems, compared with the general population. They are also more likely to find it difficult to describe what is wrong with them which makes it harder for health care workers to identify their health needs.

“Our Wellbeing Hub has specially trained staff who can better understand the needs of our learning disability community. It offers annual health checks, which are essential for every person aged 14 and over with a learning disability. In addition, staff at the Hub not only provide advice, support, and information on where to go for help, but also guidance on how people with a learning disability can improve their physical and mental health.”

The Hub will have trained staff, including a Social Prescriber to help provide not just annual health checks, but a comprehensive, long-term look at the health and wellbeing of their patients, with useful information in easy read format.
