Bridlington Vicar: 'People will grow to appreciate King Charles' character'
Mark Carey of Christ Church in Bridlington says he's expecting a 'really good' transition into the new monarchy
The Vicar of Christ Church in Bridlington says people will grow to appreciate King Charles' character.
Mark Carey has been talking about the new monarch, as he has personally met him and Camilla, the Queen Consort.
He said: "My father was Archbishop of Canterbury and at his retirement, we as a family were invited to St. James Palace for a dinner in honour of my father's ministry as Archbishop of Canterbury. It was hosted by King Charles, then Prince Charles of course, and we met Camilla.
"They were very kind and considerate. It felt like a family occasion in this great kind of ceremonial place. I was very impressed in which he was able to relate to us, you know people who don't usually mix with royalty, and he had a joke or two and made a lovely speech.
"There's something about his character that I think we'll grow to appreciate even more so in this time as he steps into such a significant role. I think he possesses great intellect, thoughtfulness and humility about him taking on this role.
"I expect a really good transition into the new monarchy and some changes as well inevitably. I'm looking forward to what's to come but very, very sad because we're all feeling this extraordinary loss."
