People in Bridlington who are hesitant about getting the Covid-19 vaccine are being reassured that it is 'very safe'.

That is from Dr. Anne Jeffreys, who is the Chairperson of the East Riding of Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

It is as there are still chances to get a jab with walk-in clinics being held throughout the county.

Dr. Jeffreys said: "The vaccine roll-out has been a huge success and a really big thank you to everyone who's been involved in it. It's going well everywhere in the East Riding and in Bridlington at the moment, 86% of people have had their first dose and 77% have had their second which is a fantastic achievement.

"There's still plenty of opportunities for people who haven't yet had either their first, or are due their second, to come along and get the second jab. It's very important to have both jabs to get a good level of immunity against the virus.

"In Bridlington with people under 30, 66% have had their first dose but it would be nice if it was a little bit higher so we're doing a lot of sessions where people can just come along and they can just drop-in. The numbers for the second are lower at just under 30% but a lot of those are people who are not yet due because you have to wait eight weeks.

"The vaccine is very safe and very effective. We've now given millions of doses across the world and lots of research to say that it's safe and effective so please, if you've been hesitant in the past have a think about it, look up on the NHS website and get some good information."
