Bridlington Town Chairman predicts England Euro 2020 result
Pete Smurthwaite says it'll go to England 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
The Chairman of Bridlington Town has been talking to us ahead of England's match against Italy in the final of the Euros tonight.
We spoke to Pete Smurthwaite before the Denmark game - which we won - so we felt we had to do it again.
He has already told us 'it IS coming home' and is sticking by that.
Pete said:
"When your name's on the cup sometimes your name's on the cup and if you look at how the game went the other night, we get maybe a bit of an iffy penalty and then the penalty wasn't that great and we were fortunate enough to get a good rebound and bang, we win the game. The overall performance of the team I thought was excellent.
"I think I'd have preferred Spain based on their recent record, they've not been that successful in the past year with results, whereas Italy are on this 31 games unbeaten run, which is a phenomenal record and they're always difficult to beat the Italians, even when they've not got a very good team.
"I don't think it'll be a classic football game. I think it'll be a game of cat and mouse; each team feeling each other out, not wanting to take too many risks especially in the first hour of the game and then see if you can open it up in the last half hour and then we'll go to the usual extra time and penalties no doubt.
"Never been a lucky charm but let's go back to Bridlington Town, for England the assistant manager, Graeme Jones, is a former Bridlington Town player so they can't lose can they? Whatever comes out of town is brilliant. "
Pete reckons the win will go to England 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
