A Bridlington South Councillor says he is hoping for some big announcements on the last day of the COP26 climate conference.

Andy Walker represents the ward at the East Riding authority and he has made a wishlist for what he wants to see today.

Talks are set to conclude between the UK and world leaders in Glasgow as part of the summit with deals being secured to tackle climate change in the future.

Andy, who is also the Yorkshire Party's environmental spokesperson, said:

"My wishlist is always going to be I want them to tell the truth. If we can get the delegates and the governments there to actually do what they say they're going to do, then we're a long way down the road. They've also got to tell the truth instead of greenwash.

"Greenwash I think is the biggest threat we've got. I'm hoping there will be breakthroughs. The deals have got to be done because we have got to stick to the 1.5 degree limit. We know at the moment they're heading for 2.4 and that's a catastrophe.

"I'm really, really disappointed but the signs are just there with America and China looking to do a deal which is significant. It just proves that these people are doing stuff underneath the surface, so the optimist in me says China is not the bad guy in this.

"They have a place at the table, we need them there, we need them to stop using coal but they're starting to be public about what they're going to do. They're moving their own goalposts which is brilliant. We need to get urgency into this and that is what's been lacking so far.

"It's urgent. This is a climate emergency. It's not just a gentle irritation. It's vital that governments and the people who make the decisions really understand we've got to do it now."
