First Pride event for Bridlington hopes to highlight support out there
It's being held at Bridlington Spa tomorrow
Bridlington is having its first ever Pride event tomorrow.
It is hoped it will shine a spotlight on the town's LGBTQIA+ support groups and community.
It is being held at Bridlington Spa from 12 noon to 7pm tomorrow (Saturday 2nd July) with free entry, a main stage show, stalls, support groups, health fair and family room.
Andy Train, one of the organisers, said: "It's just amazing. I think everybody's ready for this kind of event and I think people are ready generally for any kind of event to be honest. We've seen some fantastic responses, particularly to the Prides that have gone on both regionally and nationally since restrictions have been eased. It's wonderful to come together with people."
Sarah Kemp, one of the co-chairs of Bridlington Pride, said: "We've got live acts, drag queens and some tribute acts. We've got the health and wellness room, we've got the children's room which is going to have creative arts going on inside it. If it gets a little bit overwhelming for people, we've got a quiet zone and some gender neutral changing rooms.
"We've got a date for next year already. We have activities going on throughout the year at the moment. We've got the youth club that runs. We very much would like to start a group for parents to help them support their children. I'd quite like to have a silver pride for the older people and we need to get more for the younger to middle aged group.
"We need some education and things like that to help signpost people in the right direction if they want to think about their identities and help them to achieve their personal selves. We're going to work throughout the year hopefully, get things going, and hopefully build a bigger group."
