The new Mayor of Bridlington says it is an honour to wear the chains as he sets out his plan for his year in office.

We told you last week that Mike Heslop-Mullens was voted into the post last week.

He has chosen to support children's cancer charity, Candlelighters, during the year.

Mike said: "Being elected as Mayor is a privilege. I intend to represent the town as best I can, especially as this year marks the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen. I'm really looking forward to helping the town celebrate.

"I think we need to do more in the town in bits and pieces. I'm also hoping that we can work with businesses and local residents to clean the areas outside their shops and houses to make the place look better.

"My aim is to get the community involved in Bridlington as much as I can. I'm looking forward to meeting as many people and organisations as possible. My charity for this year is Candlelighters but I will also be supporting local charities.

"We need to make this town look as sparkling as possible so that we can attract more people into it. We need tourists and we need tourists that want to come back so that's my idea of saying to people 'let's see what we can do to make the town sparkle.'"
