Bridlington Kite Festival is set to return next month.

The event is traditionally held in May but last year it had to be staged in September due to the pandemic.

Now, it is set to return in all its glory in its usual spot with a full line-up of big, and small, kites, along with street food stalls, fairground rides and children's entertainment.

Kites of all descriptions, sizes and colours will take to the air for two days of aerial displays over Sewerby Fields, above Bridlington, on Saturday 21st to Sunday 22nd May.

Previous years have seen everything from flying frogs to sky-high snakes and leaping lizards to daredevil dragons, with internationally renowned experts providing spectacular displays for hundreds of spectators over the weekend.

And as well as professional demonstrations, visitors can also go fly a kite themselves with kites for loan and have-a-go supervised sessions.

Organised by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s events team, along with the Northern Kite Group, the Festival will run from 10am to 5pm on both days and is free to attend.

Councillor Jane Evison, portfolio holder for economic development and tourism, including leisure and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The Kite Festival has become an event we really look forward to hosting in East Yorkshire.

“The festival attracts many visitors who come to see some of the world’s largest inflatable kites take to the skies, above the dramatic cliffs of the East Yorkshire coast in May.

“Kites of all descriptions, sizes and colours will be taking to the air for two days of stunning aerial displays.

“The previous event in September which was delayed due to the pandemic was extremely popular and this one promises to once again be the perfect family outing – bringing happy smiles to faces and a lot of memories to share.”
