People in Bridlington are being asked what hospital services they want and need.

The NHS wants to know what they think and is running an online survey.

There has long been concern over the provision of services in the town.

Councillor Andy Walker, who represents Bridlington South at East Riding of Yorkshire Council and also sits on Bridlington Town Council, said:

"The survey is about how we want the services to be in our area. The survey went out under the title 'what matters to us?' and that was such a joy to receive because somebody wants to hear from us.

"Bridlington is in a strange place with the NHS. We're in a bit of a no mans land; the hospital is owned by York, the services are commissioned by East Riding but Humber, Coast and Vale are also doing a review and they also want to know what matters to us.

"Although there's all sorts of authorities involved in Bridlington hospital, we know that the services are being withdrawn. They're being taken away from the coast and this is an opportunity to say what matters to us.

"It's not just patients who have to travel to these far flung clinics like Malton and York, but of course if people are in hospital, then their families, drivers or visitors also have to travel.

"It does matter and I don't recall this ever happening in the past so this is a great milestone. I would urge everybody in Bridlington to respond. Find the survey, fill it in, make sure it's Brid and tell them what matters to us."

The link to the survey is here and it closes on Monday 5th April.
