More calls for Bridlington Hospital to get its own A and E department

There are more calls for Bridlington Hospital to get its own A&E department.
A motion is being put to a meeting of East Riding of Yorkshire council today by the Lib Dem group asking members to back it.
It is as a bid for £720 million has been made for other hospitals in the Humberside area to get one.
Jayne Phoenix recently moved to Bridlington and said she quickly discovered problems and her brother needed emergency treatment:
"In order to get to an accident and emergency department you'd have to get to Scarborough. I then later found out that having to have some treatment for skin cancer that I had to go to Malton Hospital.
"He had to go through the whole process of going through to A&E in Scarborough, waiting 24 hours on a trolley and in the end after being assessed, he eventually got on to the ward and now he's in the unit in Bridlington which is brilliant.
"I didn't know how long I was going to be there for. I couldn't pop back home and then pop back in again. I was stuck there myself. It was more like 'how long are we going to be here for 20 miles away?' It's not a local hospital, you don't know how long you're going to be there for.
"The pressure that the other hospitals are under that I think having an A&E in Bridlington would be beneficial not only for the people of Bridlington, but also for people that are using the other A&Es which are overloaded."
