Bridlington is welcoming its first ever Eco Summit today.

The festival-style event is for people who are interested in climate and ecological care and what actions can be done.

It is from 10am until 4pm at Christ Church on Quay Road in Bridlington.

Reverend Oli Preston is the Multiply Minister there and said:

"We're coming together to look at how we can learn from each other and connect to share ideas and look for how we can work together on climate and ecological matters, recognising that there is a climate and ecological climate in our world and that part of that solution has to start with us connecting those communities, reimagining and rebuilding our world.

"This is the first of its kind that's happened. We want to be able to have anyone from around the streets, whether they're already active and starting to look at how their lifestyle can make a change, how they can start making those little changes and how we can campaign together for big changes. We think it's really important that there's those spaces where we can start to connect.

"I've been really pleasantly surprised at how many people are already engaging with these things in Bridlington, at how many people have just started coming out of the woodwork, there's loads of people who are already thinking about and engaging with these things.

"East Riding of Yorkshire Council declared a climate and ecological emergency earlier this year. We are in a climate and ecological emergency so it's really important that we start having this conversation in public that we look for how we can change our ways, not just as individuals but the systems are structures both in our communities and around the world. This is not just about the plants and the animals."
