Bridlington Cricket Club unveil upgraded facilities and clubhouse

Bridlington Cricket Club have officially unveiled their upgraded practice facilities and refurbished clubhouse.

Bridlington Cricket Club have officially unveiled their upgraded practice facilities and refurbished clubhouse.

It held a small socially distanced gathering on Wednesday (7th October), after completing the works funded by East Riding of Yorkshire Council as part of Commuted Sums from local housing developments.

Bill Emmerson, Chairman of Bridlington Cricket Club, and First XI Captain John Major were presented with a plaque from East Riding of Yorkshire Council relating to the Commuted Sums funding the club received.

In total, the club were awarded £32,062.00 from Commuted Sums and in addition to this they received £9,348.00 from the Fraisthorpe Wind Farm Fund.

Bill Emmerson said:

“Bridlington Cricket Club is delighted to have been awarded Commuted Sums funding from East Riding of Yorkshire Council for the refurbishment of the clubhouse and the provision of synthetic practice facilities.

“We are particularly grateful to Lea Anne Wright and Theresa Gale, Commuted Sums Officers, for their guidance and support from the initial discussions regarding the objectives, through the application process and the delivery and completion of the project.

“We now have a high quality facility at Dukes Park that complements our objectives to be a specialist cricket centre in East Yorkshire.

“Bridlington Cricket Club would like to thank East Riding of Yorkshire Council for its support and for the way it is encouraging participation in sport in the community.”

Councillor Gary McMaster, portfolio holder for enhancing communities, added:

“This is another great example of Commuted Sums provided by local housing developments as a condition of their planning approval making a huge difference for a local sports club, and I am delighted we have been able to contribute towards these significant improvements at Bridlington Cricket Club. I wish them well for the future.”
