Bridlington to celebrate Armed Forces Day
It's two weeks after Scarborough hosted the Armed Forces Day National Event
Two weeks after the Armed Forces Day National Event in Scarborough, today is the turn of Bridlington to celebrate the military.
It is based around the Bridlington RNLI's lifeboathouse on the Promenade and runs from 11am until 4pm.
A parade starts from the War Memorial Gardens at midday.
Martin Barmby is one of those behind the event and said: "We've got the parade stepping off at 12 o'clock from the War Memorial, down through town, we've got Saluting Dias at the Yacht Club opposite the Spa, down the RNLI slipway and we'll be falling out infront of the RNLI building. From there, you'll have the vehicles that have been in the parade as well as all the static displays.
"We've had a few last minute alterations. We weren't going to get an aircraft, now we are again, but hopefully maybe we'll get one, two or three but we won't know until today due to service availability and weather. We've got the Ghurkhas coming from Leconfield doing the cookery, dance and a demonstration.
"We're just a little town on the North East coast and we like to do our bit. This is our eighth or ninth now and we just sort of all got together around a table in a pub, as these things normally happen, and said 'let's do this' and it's just grown, grown and grown. This is actually first year actually on the Foreshore.
"Get out there and see us. We're obviously not as big as Scarborough but I think we do our little town proud, so for those of us that left it as teenagers and came back as pensioners, it's nice to just march through your hometown every now and then."
