Bridlington is welcoming an Andy's Man Club.

It is a group for men over 18 to come together in a safe space to talk about any issues or problems they have.

It is launching at 7pm today at Bridlington Town Football Club and will run every Monday.

Neil Waine, project development champion at Andy's Man Club, said:

"The rate of male suicide is rising and the figures are usually based off men under 45 and that figure's actually risen so it's the biggest single killer in men under 50. The East Riding of Yorkshire unfortunately has a high rate of male suicide and Scarborough has the highest.

"We only have three rules at the club; we don't talk about medication because there's no professionals in there and it's pure peer-to-peer support with guys who have got lived experience, we don't talk about religion and we don't talk about politics, other than that the guys can come and speak freely and openly without any judgement whatsoever and know that it's in a confidential space.

"The main stigmas are around embarrassment of talking, feeling weak because you're talking and you're going to burden others by opening up and talking about your problems and we're trying to smash those stigmas; and the fact that we're getting upwards of 1,000 men walking through the doors of our clubs every week, shows you that it's getting somewhere and it does work and we're genuinely saving lives.

"It's genuinely saved people's lives. It's brought them back from the brink of wanting to end their life and not be around anymore. There are guys who have attempted their life and have found Andy's Man Club, there are guys who have had suicidal thoughts but on the flip side of that, it might just be that a guy is lonely and doesn't have any social interaction other than Andy's Man Club."
