Bird flu confirmed near Thirsk
DEFRA says all poultry on the site will be humanely culled

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) has been confirmed in commercial poultry near Thirsk, North Yorkshire.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has declared a 3km protection zone and a 10km surveillance zone around the affected premises.
DEFRA says all poultry on the site will be humanely culled to prevent the spread of the virus.
The measures, which came into force at 7pm on 3 November 2025, include strict controls on bird movements, enhanced biosecurity, and record-keeping requirements for all premises with poultry or captive birds within the zones.
Residents and poultry keepers in the area are urged to follow official guidance and report any unusual deaths or illness in birds immediately.
