England striker Beth Mead - who grew up near Whitby - will receive her MBE at Windsor Castle later.

She was named in the King's New Year's Honours list after helping the Lionesses win the Euros.

The accolade tops off a spate of awards for the Arsenal player - who won the Golden Boot award in Euro 2022 and named Sports Personality of the Year.

She was also handed freedom of the borough of Scarborough - after a Greatest Hits Radio campaign to get her recognised locally.

Mead will be joined by fellow Lioness Lucy Bronze.

The pair, who won the 2022 European Championship with England, will both become MBEs for their services to football.
