Seaton Hall farm cafe in Staithes applies for alcohol licence
The Barn Owl Cafe has asked for permission from Scarborough Borough Council
The Barn Owl Cafe has applied to Scarborough Council for permission to serve alcohol on its premises.
The application seeks a licence to serve alcohol at the Barn Owl Cafe, located on Seaton Hall Farm in Staithes, Saltburn by the Sea.
If approved by Scarborough Council, the tea room will be permitted to serve alcohol for consumption on and off its premises near Whitby.
The proposed sale of alcohol would take place seven days a week, from midday until 11pm.
The application was submitted by William Kidd (Sir Francis Bigod Limited) and the proposed premises supervisor would be Mrs Louise Taylor.
The cafe’s website states that the location has “1000 years of recorded history”, adding that “the house is set in a walker’s paradise with cliff tops and deeply wooded ravines to explore.”
The property was bought in 2002 by Mr Kidd and was described as “a wreck” at the time.
However, it has had considerable investment and now also features an antiques shop and an extensive garden.
Currently, there is an ongoing public consultation concerning the application and members of the public can express their views on whether the alcohol licence should be granted.
Representations should be made to licensing.services@scarborough.gov.uk by 2 August at the latest.
The mandatory conditions for the licence states that there must not be any “irresponsible” drinks promotions, that an age verification policy must be in place, and that no alcohol should be sold or supplied for consumption on or off the premises “for less than the permitted price”.
