UPDATE: A171 reopened after earlier collision

UPDATE. 5.30pm: The A171 is now reopen to drivers, after being closed earlier between Whitby and Scarborough, as Police dealt with a road collision.

North Yorkshire Police earlier asked people to divert on the B1416 towards Ruswarp.

Posting on Facebook, officers added: 'If you are wanting to leave the Robin Hoods Bay and Fylingthorpe area, please divert out via the Hawsker direction.

'We are working with other emergency services and thank you in advance for your understanding and assistance.'

However, the road has now reopened, and traffic has returned to normal.
