Scarborough Borough Council has opened this year’s subscription to its annual garden waste service.

The twice fortnightly service will operate from Monday 1st March to Friday 3rd December.

The authority says approximately 16,500 households currently subscribe to the service. The council is contacting subscribers by email to remind them to renew their subscription so their licence can be updated for the 2021 scheme.

Households can renew or join for the first time online at www.scarborough.gov.uk/gardenwaste after which they will receive email confirmation of their collection dates and their property will be added to the council’s active subscribers list within 48 hours.

Customers without online access should call 01723 232323 to subscribe.

The subscription for this year’s licence costs £38, which is for use with one brown bin or with garden waste sacks.

The licence does not include sacks (or the cost of a brown bin for those new to the service) which must be purchased separately.

The authority says new subscribers purchasing a brown bin and licence for the first time will receive a sticker, which will arrive in the post and must be attached to the bin to enable the council’s collection crews to check the subscription is up to date. Subscribers using garden waste sacks will not receive a sticker. The crews work off a customer list in the cab of the collection wagon ensuring only subscribers receive collections. If customers signed up last year then they do not need a new sticker as it remains the same each year.
