The Scarborough borough recorded 145 cases of Covid-19 last week, new figures have revealed.

It was an increase of 53 compared to the previous week and took the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 1,171.

The borough’s seven-day infection rate per 100,000 people has also jumped up from this time last week. It now stands at 122 compared to 92 seven days ago.

Despite the rise, the borough is well below the average for England which stands at 207.

Today, a mobile testing facility will be at the Guisborough Road park and ride site in Whitby before being open at Scarborough’s Seamer Road park and ride site on Wednesday.

The testers will then be back in Whitby on Thursday.

The testing has been organised by the Department of Health and Social Care which has warned people to not just turn up but make an appointment first.

There are two ways to do this depending on which testing group you are part of.

Anyone who is showing coronavirus symptoms should register for a test on the NHS website at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

People who do not have access to the internet, or who have difficulty with the digital portals, can ring the 119 service to book.

Tests can be booked at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.
