14 new trainee detectives join Humberside Police
They've completed their initial academy training
14 new trainee Detective Constables have joined Humberside Police via Police Now's National Detective Programme.
They have completed their initial academy training, which began in March, when 70 new officers were attested at Police Now’s detective academy.
The 14-week academy equipped participants with the core knowledge and skills required in modern investigative work, including managing crime scenes, making arrests, handling complex investigations, and first aid and officer safety training. Participants also sat their National Investigators’ Exam and completed field training shifts in Humberside Police’s Response and Criminal Investigation Departments.
Trainee Detective Constable Addison Lloyd, who joins Humberside Police via the programme, said: "The Police Now academy experience has been incredibly rewarding and enjoyable. We have all learnt invaluable skills and knowledge that we hope to bring back to Humberside. I personally am very excited to get out in the force area to meet residents and colleagues alike and get fully involved in serving our communities.
“It is an interesting time to become involved in policing with plenty of challenges ahead. Police Now has given us a good grounding in the principles of policing which we will build upon in force. We’re all very enthusiastic and looking forward to working in Humberside."
The new officers will now continue Police Now’s two-year National Detective Programme within their force, where they will be supported by Police Now coaches and force colleagues to play a part in solving crimes and supporting victims of crime across Humberside. They will also work towards their Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice in partnership with the University of Huddersfield.
Sergeant James McKellar-Main, the operational lead for Police Now in Humberside Police and one of two experienced officers seconded from the force to train the new detectives at the academy, said: “It has been a pleasure working with fourteen very enthusiastic participants throughout the academy, and we have seen them all develop their detective skills as the weeks have gone on.
“They have experienced shifts within Humberside Police, and we have had glowing reports back from supervisors in force. We look forward to them landing in force today following their training and seeing how they develop over the two-year programme. We have been affiliated to Police Now for five years and have seen a number of highly committed and driven officers arrive and develop in the force.”
