Ten new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Scarborough in the last 24 hours as it was confirmed that the borough will remain on Public Health England’s Area of Concern list for a third week.

The new cases bring the borough’s total since the start of the pandemic to 759, an increase in 30 since the weekend as cases continue to rise to record levels nationally.

Government data shows that Scarborough’s cases are still trending upwards with a weekly average of 46.9 cases per 100,000. A seven day rolling average of 138.2 people per 100,000 are being tested every day in the borough, according to the data.

Neighbouring Redcar and Cleveland, which has been designated as requiring “Enhanced Support” one step below additional measures being implemented, has 55.6 cases per 100,000 people.

On Sunday, a mobile testing facility will be in Scarborough at the Seamer Road park and ride site.

The testing has been organised by the Department of Health and Social Care which has warned people to not just turn up but make an appointment first.

There are two ways to do this depending on which testing group you are part of.

Anyone who is showing coronavirus symptoms should register for a test on the NHS website at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

People who do not have access to the internet, or who have difficulty with the digital portals, can ring the 119 service to book.

Key workers and members of their household should register for a test on the government website.

Tests can be booked at www.gov.uk/apply-coronavirus-test-essential-workers from 8pm on Saturday.
