Yorkshire Water colleagues are attending events in York for customers struggling to pay their bill.

The sessions are being held as part of the Money & Pensions Service’s Talk Money Week (3 – 7 November) – a campaign created to build opportunities for everyone in the UK to have more open conversations about their finances. This year’s theme is ‘start the conversation’, offering a clear first step toward action.

The sessions are being held at Tang Hall Community Centre between 9.30am - 11am and Foxwood Community Centre between 11.45am - 2pm on Friday 7th of November.

Customers at the events will be able to speak with Yorkshire Water about their bills and what bill support might be available to them.

Claire Gott, community engagement manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “Over 200,000 customers have received support on their bills from us this year, whether that be through placing them on water meter to reduce charges, a social tariff reduction scheme or one that helps customers pay off water bill debts.

“However, we know that some of our customers struggling with their bills may not have reached out to us to find out how we might be able to support them. We’re hoping that by being at these events, we can take the offer directly to them, start conversations, and give more assistance to the people who need it.”

The utility offers two different bill reduction tariffs - WaterSupport, which reduces bills for the lowest income households across the region, and WaterSure, which caps bills at a fixed amount for those who claim income-based benefits and need to use extra water.

There are also schemes available to customers who may have found themselves in arrears with their water charges which can match customer payments to get them out of debt quicker.

Over £375m will be delivered in bill reductions and debt support between 2025 and 2030 for those who need it.
