Yorkshire's reservoirs now 95% full
It means the likelihood of another hosepipe ban this summer's reduced
Yorkshire's reservoirs are now 95 per cent full - according to Yorkshire Water.
It follows last year's drought and hose pipe ban.
The utility company says water levels have since recovered - reducing the likelihood of another ban this summer.
A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: “Our reservoir levels have recovered from last year’s drought and are currently around 95% full.
"A wetter than usual March and April, increased leakage activity, and our customers’ efforts to reduce water use means that we move into the warmer months in a better position than last year.
“Even when reservoir levels are healthy, it is always important to save water where possible. Small changes can add up to make a huge difference, like using a watering can instead of a hosepipe or making a DIY water butt to help feed plants.”
Last year Yorkshire Water imposed strict restrictions because reservoir levels had dropped below 50%.
The Environment Agency also officially moved Yorkshire to drought status on 15 August following six months of below average rainfall combined with high temperatures.
The county was eventually moved out of drought on 16 January this year.
