A man from York is taking clothes, food, sleeping bags, tents, blankets, first aid and sanitary products to those who need it most in Poland.

Some of those products will then be sent to Ukraine as well.

It has been a lengthy journey for Steve Pepper who started to travel on Thursday evening.

Members of EGL Transport and BHE Storage are also taking part in a sponsored canoe trail to raise funds during Easter.

Managing Director Steve Pepper, who began his journey on Thursday evening had this to say:

"The fundraising has been incredible, we’ve filled 9 lorries with urgent medical aid and there has been somewhere in the region of £35k donated.

"Because of this we have bought an empty lorry across, to be loaded with thousands of pounds worth of food to supply when we’ve unloaded the lorries.

"Somewhere in the region of 6 van loads of urgent supplies were couriered to the main sorting centre and another 2 van loads were loaded onto my lorry Thursday morning before I left.

"A quick thank you to everyone who donated, our friends who collected, packed and chased after goods."

Already over £5,000 has been donated to the cause, further donations can be made here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/Canoe-for-Ukraine
