York makes top 10 of "Shakespearean Address" hot-spots
The list has been released to mark Shakespeare's birthday
York has been ranked within the top ten UK hotspots, for addresses inspired by Shakespeare.
The data has been released by Royal Mail, on the day officially recognised as his birthday.
Over 2,000 street and house names in the UK were linked to the Bard of Avon, and his works.
21 of those were in the York area, putting the city in joint 8th position in the ranking.
In York, the featured street names were Lysander Close, Lysander Drive, Merchant Close, Montague Street, Montague Road and Montague Walk.
There are also numerous addresses called Midsummer House and The Hamlet in the YO postcode area.
Aside from London, Bristol is officially the UK's most Shakespearean city. In terms of named addresses, anyway.
It features 34 place names, and is followed by Colchester, Essex (26), and Shakespeare's birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon, comes in fifth (25).
Some of the more unusual names on the list include a straightforward Titania in Alloa, and Macbeth Moir Road in Mountain Ash, Wales.

"It’s no secret that William Shakespeare and his works form an enormous part of British history and identity, but it’s fascinating to see that his legacy is felt so profoundly across the entire country."
