Parents demand safety improvements outside York school
They are holding a demonstration this morning
Parents are calling for new crossings on roads in York that they say is putting potentially hundreds of children's lives at risk.
They want the council to install pedestrian crossings near schools on Acomb Road and reduce speed limits.
Zeina Chapman has to cross the road with her children every day- and says it's terrifying: "As parents we are hearing every single day about near misses, we either witnessing them ourselves or hearing from other parents that small children are falling foul to dangerous driving conditions and dangerous conditions on both of those roads."
A petition has been set up calling for the changes. It says: 'Conditions on Acomb Road (B1224) are currently extremely dangerous for children and other vulnerable road users.
It is the main access route for hundreds of children travelling to Acomb Primary School, local pre-schools and secondaries. It is also used out of school hours by many kids going to the park and visiting friends.
Traffic on the road often moves extremely fast, visibility can be very poor - particularly around junctions - and there are no pedestrian crossings near the school. It is also a major bus route and is used frequently by heavy vehicles.

We have approached City of York Council for comment.
