A York pub is hosting a fundraiser event to raise money for the crisis in Ukraine.

The Bay Horse pub will be hosting local musicians, who have given their time for free, to perform this evening (25 March).

Lorna Turnbull, landlady of The Bay Horse, said:

“It must be absolutely terrible to lose your livelihood within hours, to lose your life within hours. I thought that could happen to any of us, so let’s try to do something to help them along that terrible journey.

“We’re doing a fundraiser for the crisis in Ukraine. Five local acts have very kindly given their time for free to encourage punters to donate.”

Lorna has already collected donations of cold weather items, sanitary products, toiletries, baby products and pet care.

She said they’ve been inundated with donations, but toiletries and sanitary products are still welcome: “People have been so kind and generous with their donations of money and items. It’s been a real community spirit.

“I want to thank everyone that’s been involved.”
